Stevie and Her Sunset Sisters
the endless search for the perfect summer playlist

by Kelly Christ
Excerpt: “As time continues to pass us by in this strange reality, music helps to ground us in the moment. Shifting to summer playlists at the start of the season is an exciting time, but that shift of the seasons has been a bit of a blur this year. I’m a creature of habit when it comes to music, and I tend to find myself listening to the same artists over and over. Because of this, I will be the first to admit I don’t have the best music taste, lacking the range and variety I admire in so many of my friends. But as this somehow endlessly brief summer draws to close, I want to give a nod to the women whose music carries me through the season.”
The Glitches Keep Going
A brief addendum to the Complex piece "Gorgeous Glitches and Nightcore Melodies: The New Generation of SoundCloud Music is Here."

by Kieran Press-Reynolds
Excerpt: “The other day, I published an article for Pigeons & Planes on the new faces of SoundCloud rap and hyperpop. It was a long piece — 3000+ words — and while I mentioned quite a few of my favorite artists, I didn’t get to cover everyone I wanted to. This scene goes deep — there are close to 40 promising rappers/vocalists not even counting producers. Originally, I left a list of my favorite tracks at the end of the piece, but that didn’t make print — so here’s the list.”
Who Is Going to Be Canceled Next?
the rise of cancel culture in music... too far or not far enough?

By Grace Robinson
Excerpt: “We need to reevaluate which artists need to be ‘canceled.’ In the last few months, we have chosen to cancel the rising female artists in the industry, yet we stopped pointing fingers at Chris Brown, Kanye West, or XXXTentacion. These artists have expressed abusive, misogynistic behavior for years that the media has lost interest in. For those who have committed serious acts against others, their punishment must be more strong than public humiliation drawn by teenagers on social media.”
